Trendspotting – Velvet Crush

Love it or hate it, velvet has the power instantly elevate an outfit. Because it has such a distinctive look, velvet tends to either be trending or just completely outdated – there is no in between. I love that velvet is currently trending this fall, but that unlike previous seasons when velvet was popular, this season’s looks are edgier, cooler and a lot more streamlined. Many designers sent velvet looks down the runway for Fall 2017 but my favourite by far were the gorgeous pant suits from Tibi and Altuzarra – love it! Here are some of my favourite looks featuring the velvet trend:

Trendspotting – Well Suited

Although my personal style is quite casual, I have always loved a good pants suit. Maybe it’s because my mum is very particular about dressing professionally and wore a blazer to work almost every single day, but there is something about a great suit that gets me every time. I was understandably thrilled when pants suits began trending again. For a while there, ill fitting, dull coloured suits were the only options that most women had unless they were willing to spend an exorbitant amount of money, but now the tide has thankfully changed.

Skinny pants, oversized blazers, cropped pants, fitted jacket – they are all trending and they look fabulous! Different fabrications and patterns help the wearer express their own individuality without having to say a word. Paired with sneakers, block heels, t-shirts or chunky knits – the options are limitless and pants suits are now a great way to showcase your style and personality in a unique and chic way. Thankfully this trend will be continuing into Spring 2018 and I cannot wait to see fresh takes on this classic trend! Here are some of my favourite looks featuring the fabulous pants suit:

Street Style Favourites From Stockholm Fashion Week S/S 18

Stockholm’s Fashion Week for S/S 18 was held last week and as expected many Scandinavian style stars were out in full force. Fortunately they did not disappoint, effortlessly mixing falls hottest trends with into their own personal style. Overall the looks were bold, unique and fabulous! Street Style Favourites From Oslo Fashion Week S/S 18

In the fashion world February and September are referred to as fashion months. It is during these months that major fashion shows in New York, London, Milan and Paris are held. Bloggers and the fashion elite flock to these cities and in recent years are photographed headed to the shows – this is often referred to as street style. While the major shows are great and show the upcoming collections from well known brands and designers along with a few that are gaining traction on the world stage, I love looking at the styles from the lesser known fashion weeks. If you have been following this blog for a while, it should come as no surprise to you that I have a special place in my heart for Scandinavian design. While I normally show my affection by spotlighting various interiors with Scandinavian influence on Stylishly Zen, I would be remiss if I didn’t shine the spotlight on the fabulous street style and fashion from these countries. As a former fashion executive, I find the fashion styling in these countries fabulous, inspiring and distinctly Scandinavian. Fashionable yet effortlessly cool and unique, these looks are gorgeous and inspiring. Love! Love! Love!

This past August Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm all held their fashion shows to showcase their Spring/Summer 2018 collections, so over the next couple of weeks I will be showcasing my favourite looks (both street style and shows) here on Stylishly Zen starting today with street style from Oslo. Inspiring Interior

When I first saw pictures of today’s Inspiring Interior I was speechless. It checked off all of the boxes of things that I love in interiors. Lots of natural light? ✔️ Raw textures? ✔️ Minimalist and sophisticated? ✔️

Located in Antwerp Belgium, this renovated listed home was originally built in the 1800’s. The designer Nicolas Schuybroek and his team were given the task of turning this home into a modern oasis and they did a phenomenal job! Raw textures such as wood beams, marble and chevron floors perfectly compliment and balance the mid century furniture throughout the home. Keeping things simple yet sophisticated, Mr. Schuybroek and his team successfully created a light filled and timeless home from a space that had previously been dark, dreary and dated. Love it! I will be keeping pictures of this home on my vision board for years to come!
