Heavenly Home – Ornamental Modern by Dylan Farrell Design

Hi Everyone!

I love a good house tour and today’s project is one home that I am completely in love with. Located in Melbourne and designed by the extremely talented firm Dylan Farrell Design, this home is exquisite. With it’s modern Italianate exterior, and grand interior proportions, it would be easy to for many design decisions to underwhelm, but by adding layers of warmth such as gorgeous timber chevron floors and a black and white repetition throughout the home the design elevates the overall mood of the home. Steel and glass doors framed by floor to ceiling wire brushed oak, help to create a sense of separation and flow throughout the home. The result is an urban edginess combined with a rustic farmhouse vibe, love it!

Given all of the incredible features throughout the home it’s hard to pick a favourite, but the warm warm tones of the dining room next to a well stocked wine cellar create a welcoming and intimate vibe that I love. I am also completely smitten with the aged mirror panels on the steel framed closet doors.

The warm tones of the interior are carried throughout the exterior spaces of the home. With a sprawling leafy garden, gorgeous lap pool and outdoor fireplace area this home is the perfect place to entertain indoors and out.

Dreamy Design

Hi Everyone!

I have always gravitated towards light filled spaces, but lately it is one of the first things that I took for when researching a space. Maybe it’s because like most people I have been spending a lot of time indoors and now all I want is to immerse myself dreamy, light filled designs.

Today’s dreamy design is unique in many ways. It’s a renovated 1920’s bungalow in Sydney that had an addition added to it in the 80’s. It was in dire need of a makeover and thankfully the owners were up to the task. It order to make the most of the natural light that filled the top floor of the house the owners decided to flip the living spaces by moving the common areas such as the kitchen and the living room to the top floor and the bedrooms to the lower level. Normally I dislike this sort of flipped design as I don’t like the idea of sleeping in a bedroom on street level but in this case the home is elevated. Entry to the home is via a set of concrete steps that lead to the main entrance. Due to the elevated design, the bedrooms are above street level.

The common areas are bright open spaces with large windows and tall ceilings that helps the home to feel immersed in nature. Combined with a modern yet timeless aesthetic, the flow of the home is streamlined. I especially love the board formed concrete counter in the kitchen as it adds a cool industrial vibe to the space. There are massive sliding glass doors in the kitchen that open onto a concrete patio that overlooks the street in front of the home. This level is organized into both active and quiet zones that can be separated by sliding glass doors. The sitting room and library at the rear of the house opens to a rear garden by another massive sliding glass door. This further helps to bring the outdoors inside and create a cohesive flow within the home.Contrasting with the rest of the spaces on the top floor, the powder room is a beautiful cool grey colour with a large floor to ceiling mirror and a Jorn Utzon light fixture. The values of simplicity and contrast are imbued throughout the home with the goal of creating a space that supports the lives of the occupants. I love a sculptural staircase and the one in this home does not disappoint. It is a focal point when people enter the home with bedrooms branching off of the entry hallway. The master bedroom opens to a private garden terrace furthering a sense of calm in the space. Overall this home is a chic and light filled refuge from the frenetic pace of daily life. It seamlessly blends together the indoors with the outdoors for a calming, functional and timeless space.

Inspiring Design

The first picture that I ever saw of the Brighton Homestead by Robson Rak Architects was the incredible white entryway. It quickly earned a spot in my dream design file and I often found myself staring at it wondering what the rest of the home looked like. Last week though, The Local Project featured a breathtaking home in Melbourne that I quickly fell in love with. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the entryway that had left an indelible mark on my design dreams belonged to this dream worthy home.

Architectural firm Robson and Rak were tasked with the brief of adapting a stately home into a family enclave for a family with four young boys. They respected the original features and built a complementary extension which successfully elevated the design of the entire home.

The brief included creating an amazing zone for the children and this home balances formality with a sense of play throughout the home. This included extending the underground basement garage to allow for indoor cricket matches.

The colour palette throughout the home is restrained and elegant, with pops of colour to further elevate the sense of play vibe that this home has.

The colour play of light and dark along with large windows that allow for natural light throughout the home along with exquisite carved details, combine to make a unique and dream worthy residence.

Spacious, beautiful and light filled, this home is a study in playful elegance. One that I hope to achieve in my own home.

I suddenly realized a couple of weeks ago that it was already May and I could barely remember the last few months. Nothing traumatic had happened for the weeks and months to fly by for me but, I had done something that I normally try to avoid – I had gotten so caught up in the random everyday stresses of life that I had lost sight of the bigger picture. I was focusing on things that really didn’t deserve so much attention and I needed to hit the reset button. So in an effort to get back on track I have been taking some time to just dream, breathe and reconnect with what makes me happy and, what I would like to achieve in my life long term.

As many of you may know, I love interiors and architecture (some may even say that I am a little obsessed) so much of the time that I spent dreaming involved where I would like to live long term. And today’s dream home is positively swoon-worthy.

Located in Sonoma’s Wine Country, this home has breathtaking views, beautiful interiors, high ceilings, a swimming pool and fire pit.

The bright white walls contrast beautifully with grey accents and a warm neutral floor, and the incredible views provide the perfect backdrop for such a beautifully designed home. This home is a fabulous combination of refined luxury with a calm and comforting vibe – I am in love❤️.

Inspiring Interior

I am completely in love with this week’s Inspiring Interior. Since I completed my certification in interior design a few years ago, my style has and design aesthetic has changed a lot. I used to be obsessed with pattern and brightly contrasting hues and now? The simpler the better. I love the little details – simple and elegant texture, a lot of natural light, bright open spaces, and neutral tones with brightly coloured accents. This space completely fulfils my design loving heart.

Located in Berlin, this gorgeous apartment is filled with natural light, gorgeous tones and stunning furniture. High ceiling and stark white walls complement the natural wood floor beautifully, minimal furniture and bold artwork. Subtle touches of bright colour and bold patterns help to tie everything together. The kitchen is simple and clean yet welcoming and the balcony seems like the perfect place to relax and enjoy the weather. This apartment is front and centre on my vision board at the moment.
