The Mit Chit House

Hi Everyone!

Since the pandemic started and we were forced to stay indoors more often than not, I have become more aware of open spaces, green space and natural light. In Montreal we are now back in lockdown, so naturally today’s featured project has many areas that I am currently missing in my life right now. It also checks off all of the boxes of projects that I am currently loving!

Located in Bangkok Thailand, The Mid Chit house by Looklen Architects features four different courtyards that extend beyond the double height interiors of the home.

The Mid Chit house is a new residence the is connected to an existing family home that is connected by an upped level enclosed bridge. Mid Chit means “close together” and it a beautiful example on the balance between private spaces and more public ones that invite the outdoors inside via courtyards.

Strategically placed skylights and windows allow daylight into the heart of the home, while natural materials and light colours give the home a natural airy feel.

The home is three levels entered around an open living and dining area that encourages interaction and openness within this family home.

The private level on the third floor houses the bedrooms that allow the residents privacy within their own personal space.

Light, airy and open while still allowing it’s residents privacy, Looklen Architects has done a wonderful job renovating a preexisting home to suit modern day. What are your thoughts on this stunning home? Let me know in the comments below.

Emerald Envy

Hi Everyone!

I hope that your 2022 is off to a great start! Today’s featured project first captured my attention by showcasing one of my favourite colours throughout the home. Located in Moscow, this apartment is intelligently designed by Natalia Vologdina-Anikina to suit the lifestyle needs of both adults and children. As requested by her clients, Ms. Vologdina-Anikina used an emerald jewel tone colour throughout the home, helping to elevate the apartments luxe factor. From the dining room chairs to cladding in the master bedroom and a geometric art feature in the living room, the colour was seamlessly integrated throughout the home.

With large windows that flood the apartment with natural light, this apartment is both sophisticated yet welcoming. While the kitchen is small, it is designed to encourage socializing when in use which is perfect for both entertaining and family bonding.

The children’s bedrooms are both playful and chic, and the design will work even as the kids grow into teenagers and beyond. I especially love the suede grey panelling and wire star pendents in the room below.

And of course the bathrooms are just as gorgeous as the rest of the home. The textured ceramic tile in the guest bathroom adds a artful and dramatic touch to the space. Love it!

Last but not least (and what initially captured my attention about this project), I love the master bedroom. The captivating mix of emerald green paired with a customized bed with a taupe suede headboard and sleek white pendent lights is memorable and elegant. Love it!

Commercial Interiors Crush – STK Toronto

Hi Everyone!

It feels like the longest January ever and combined with the lockdown that we are currently in here in Montreal things seem a little bleak. One thing that I am doing to keep my spirits up is to research and plan all of the places that I would love to visit once things start to open back up. One mini getaway that I would like to take is to Toronto for some good food and great design.

Vacation Dreaming – Mykonos Home by Block722architects+

Hi Everyone!

Not being able to travel over the past year has been challenging for me.  The best way that I have found to counter my desire to get on a plane and immerse myself in a new culture has been to lose myself in dreamy projects around the world.  Today’s feature project is located in a country that is very high on my bucket list – Greece!  746767DD-FB5E-47A1-9706-B4F192456476Mykonos Home by Block722architect+ is a luxury home designed in Cycladic style of architecture.  With its use of earthy materials and textures, whitewashed walls and open spaces this home is an unmistakably dreamy refuge.  While currently it is only a render, once built it will blend perfectly in with the other building on the beautiful island of Mykonos.  9F93AD09-E9C9-4C5B-A151-0F0622CCDB0EAD3530D2-9026-406E-BBBB-77794E8D3043The natural light from the tall windows that stretch nearly the entire height of the wall give the impression of a larger space than the home really is (300m2).  Bringing in a Scandinavian design influence into the interiors, the main materials used within the home are stone and timber.  The use of these materials is also an intelligent design decision as they are naturally cooling which is particularly useful during the hot summer months.  54322476-3DA1-46EE-9084-D59FA977EBFFC0843F29-5691-42A5-9F1C-ED16DDAF6259One of my favourite spaces within the home is the kitchen, with its finely latticed timber cabinetry in a washed timber paired with lime washed walls and brass details its both chic yet warm and calming.891B1214-EDAF-4C40-A4C6-82A03D2C91E4Stone platforms are featured prominently throughout the home both inside in the living areas and within the outdoor area where they are used as day beds.  The outdoor shaded area overlooks the teal tiled pool  The outdoor space also features an outdoor shower along with areas to relax and entertain.  The decor is kept simple yet welcoming and very zen.   50A853D8-5B3B-4B96-9725-8471FBC41E83BF159559-2214-4B88-8802-AB159C657E87It is very easy to lose yourself in daydreams about this gorgeous space.  What do you think of this home?  Let me know in the comments below!

Retail Restoration – Acne Studios Flagship Store Stockholm

I love a good restoration and I especially love one with a great backstory, which is why I am so excited about today’s project. Acne Studios recently unveiled their newly restored flagship store in Stockholm and it is gorgeous!

E16A16BB-34B6-49AF-91D5-E27B4A710098

Located in a former bank, this building has quite the backstory. In 1973 there was a well known six day hostage crisis at the bank. The aftermath of the hostage situation resulted in the famous psychological term known as “Stockholm Syndrome”.

Barcelona based architecture firm Arquitectura- G is behind the newly unveiled restoration and they were clearly the perfect partner for Acne Studios as the final result is minimal and quiet luxury, exactly like the brand’s well known aesthetic.

5EA439EA-4825-4E85-ACC1-B6DDBE00D866

The original design of the building included marble columns and after stripping everything back to it’s bare bones, Arquitectura-G choose to enhance the neo-classic design by adding additional columns to areas such as the fitting rooms. By painting the walls the same colour as the columns, the final result is a monumental marble lovers dream land. To complete the stunning marble design, British furniture designer Max Lamb created five oversized marble tables which have been place throughout the shopping area of the store.

To sharply contrast with the grandiose design and material throughout the space, sleek and minimal office style lighting designed Benoit Lalloz was used. I love how it balances out the space and elevates the design from looking too heavy.

This space is an Acne shoppers dream, offering an elevated yet cool environment to shop for the gorgeous offerings that Acne produces season after season.
