Inspiring Interior – St. Germain by Montana Labelle Design

Hi Everyone!

If you have been following my blog for a while, then you know about my love for all things marble. I love seeing how designers use marble with a space to create some very dreamy interiors. One designer whose beautiful use of marble gets me every time is Toronto based designer Montana Labelle.

Today’s Inspiring Interior is one of my favourite projects by Montana Labelle Design. The St. Germain project is a sleek and modern residential project. True to Montana’s design style, it is made up of a neutral colour palette with a heavy use of black and white. Various marble stone is used as statement pieces throughout the home elevating it to a modern, chic and inviting space.

The marble used in the kitchen on the range, backsplash and hood (how gorgeous is the hood!?!?), is also carried thru to the living space where the same marble is used on the fireplace. White cabinetry paired with a sleek black kitchen island perfectly complement and showcase the beautiful stone.

The plush grey velvet dining chairs paired with a statement marble top dining chairs set the tone for the luxe dining room. The dining room is further elevated with a vintage chandelier and oversized mirror. The beautiful chevron oak floor provides the perfect chic base for this space.

A bold black and white marble is used in one of the bathrooms.  Pairing it with matte black hardware and an abstract shaped mirror keeps the marble from looking too heavy and overbearing.  Sleek white tiles and black hardware in the shower nearby ensure that focus is not pulled from the eye catching marble sink but complemented by its surroundings.

I love this home for it’s chic, modern, and minimalist style, neutral colour palette and fearless use of marble throughout the space. Vintage pieces such as the leather club chairs in the living room help to create a welcoming vibe throughout the home

Heavenly Home – Ornamental Modern by Dylan Farrell Design

Hi Everyone!

I love a good house tour and today’s project is one home that I am completely in love with. Located in Melbourne and designed by the extremely talented firm Dylan Farrell Design, this home is exquisite. With it’s modern Italianate exterior, and grand interior proportions, it would be easy to for many design decisions to underwhelm, but by adding layers of warmth such as gorgeous timber chevron floors and a black and white repetition throughout the home the design elevates the overall mood of the home. Steel and glass doors framed by floor to ceiling wire brushed oak, help to create a sense of separation and flow throughout the home. The result is an urban edginess combined with a rustic farmhouse vibe, love it!

Given all of the incredible features throughout the home it’s hard to pick a favourite, but the warm warm tones of the dining room next to a well stocked wine cellar create a welcoming and intimate vibe that I love. I am also completely smitten with the aged mirror panels on the steel framed closet doors.

The warm tones of the interior are carried throughout the exterior spaces of the home. With a sprawling leafy garden, gorgeous lap pool and outdoor fireplace area this home is the perfect place to entertain indoors and out.

Vacation Dreaming – Mykonos Home by Block722architects+

Hi Everyone!

Not being able to travel over the past year has been challenging for me.  The best way that I have found to counter my desire to get on a plane and immerse myself in a new culture has been to lose myself in dreamy projects around the world.  Today’s feature project is located in a country that is very high on my bucket list – Greece!  746767DD-FB5E-47A1-9706-B4F192456476Mykonos Home by Block722architect+ is a luxury home designed in Cycladic style of architecture.  With its use of earthy materials and textures, whitewashed walls and open spaces this home is an unmistakably dreamy refuge.  While currently it is only a render, once built it will blend perfectly in with the other building on the beautiful island of Mykonos.  9F93AD09-E9C9-4C5B-A151-0F0622CCDB0EAD3530D2-9026-406E-BBBB-77794E8D3043The natural light from the tall windows that stretch nearly the entire height of the wall give the impression of a larger space than the home really is (300m2).  Bringing in a Scandinavian design influence into the interiors, the main materials used within the home are stone and timber.  The use of these materials is also an intelligent design decision as they are naturally cooling which is particularly useful during the hot summer months.  54322476-3DA1-46EE-9084-D59FA977EBFFC0843F29-5691-42A5-9F1C-ED16DDAF6259One of my favourite spaces within the home is the kitchen, with its finely latticed timber cabinetry in a washed timber paired with lime washed walls and brass details its both chic yet warm and calming.891B1214-EDAF-4C40-A4C6-82A03D2C91E4Stone platforms are featured prominently throughout the home both inside in the living areas and within the outdoor area where they are used as day beds.  The outdoor shaded area overlooks the teal tiled pool  The outdoor space also features an outdoor shower along with areas to relax and entertain.  The decor is kept simple yet welcoming and very zen.   50A853D8-5B3B-4B96-9725-8471FBC41E83BF159559-2214-4B88-8802-AB159C657E87It is very easy to lose yourself in daydreams about this gorgeous space.  What do you think of this home?  Let me know in the comments below!

Inspiring Interior – Jenna Lyon’s Loft

Hi Everyone!

I hope that you are currently enjoying a much needed break filled with good food, laughter and relaxation.  The holidays are looking very different for me this year as I am unable to travel due to lockdown restrictions.  Like it has been for most of this year, life is just different than what I am used to but I am determined to make the best of it.  So despite spending the holidays alone (for the most part), I am enjoying getting back into the kitchen and trying new recipes, taking some time to work out everyday, watching some great shows (has anyone seen Bridgerton yet?) and working at getting both my mind and body in a more balanced state, as this has been a challenging year that I have let get the better of me on more than one occasion.  Taking the time to relax and unwind has also given me space to feel inspired and hopeful again.  One show that is currently providing inspiration on the creative front is Stylish with Jenna Lyons.  For those of you not familiar with this American fashion gem, Jenna Lyons was previously the creative director for J.Crew.  Her styling is both unique and inspirational and having binge watch the first six episodes I am now convinced that I too need to wear multiple shirts at once.
7D67A26D-DF19-4E91-9210-DFC6AE8977C6Aside from the inspirational fashion and interior design ideas that the show provides, I love that I get to see into Jenna’s home. I first saw images and fell in love with Jenna’s home in Althena Calderone’s interior book Live Beautiful.  The mix of metals and marble, textures and colours, unfinished herringbone floors and oversized crown molding are both dreamy and inspiring.  Seeing glimpses of her home throughout the show just further reiterates how fabulous Jenna’s style really is.
2E9058AB-83BA-4BAC-8E75-1061ED8D8D3FThe elevator opens up to Jenna’s living room which is home to a gorgeous, modular pink velvet sofa.    Jenna has then layered in different styles of furniture and pieces resulting in a space that is both cool girl chic and inviting.  A cool feature of the space is the TV which slides out from behind the fireplace to the space between the mirror and art when in use.  Genius!
B367463A-78E4-4D8B-B1E3-42E4390E79B2The grand Venini chandelier in the kitchen is a showstopper that elevates the space.  Unlacquered brass backsplashes and honed marble countertops round out the space.  I never would have thought to combine all of these features but they work beautifully together.
3422D0FE-291E-4A7E-87E4-9BCDFE743563E97B86A5-8E2B-4371-BAFC-4F5DD7D30F9FWhile I am enamoured with the entire home, the master bedroom and en suite bathroom are my absolute favourite space within the loft.  I have never really been a fan of wood panelling but it works perfectly in this bedroom and when combined with a warm and textured bed cover the bedroom becomes both elegant and cozy.  Floating brass bedside tables and an ornate chandelier further elevate the space.  Metal and glass doors allows views from the bedroom to the luxurious bathroom that is a marble lovers (aka moi) dream.  From the grand use of marble, to the herringbone floors and the brass detail, this is by far one of my most favoured bathrooms that I have seen.  The unlacquered baroque style bronze vanity legs were sprayed with salt water to speed along the oxidation process resulting in a beautiful green patina that complements the other features of the bathroom.

2D819DB7-9D55-4C78-9F28-690C5EC03779Jenna Lyon’s style has always been inspirational to me and her home continues to provide further inspiration with my own living space.  Her style is the perfect mood for me to be entering 2021.  What do you think of this space?  Let me know in the comments below.

I hope that you have a beautiful day!  XXS

Amazing Architecture – A Glass Cabin on a Cliff

Hi Everyone!

People’s creativity in architecture and design never cease to amaze me and today’s project is no exception.  When I first saw an image of the “Air Cabin” on Instagram, I was stopped in my scrolling tracks amazed at what I was looking at.

D0A87D26-D6A8-4ADB-B377-27AAC7A0EB14A glass home hoovering over the edge of a rocky cliff is not something that you see everyday.  Designed by Yakusha Design, this is an original and creative design as a holiday home for a surfer.  “Air” is the inspiration behind this stunning glass cabin with a goal to create a feeling of weightlessness.

765EED08-5F3C-47F9-8BD2-04F03D1672FBProminently positioned to overlook the horizon, directly facing the sea breeze in many ways this cabin is is similar to a modern yet radical light house.

713B3F22-6E9A-449F-8904-88751A2C8268Secured on a foundation made with recycled concrete and set on a vertical pillar, the cabin doesn’t take up a lot of area space but maximizes the view over the Atlantic Ocean.  In order to curtail any privacy concerns that the resident may have, there is a integrated system of windows blinds built around the perimeter of the structure. Inside the colour palette is minimal but warm and welcoming allowing the stunning views to take centre stage.  The various living zones effortlessly flow into one another throughout the home.

5F2E1660-77B0-452F-A874-5121E02CEF8D74E3689F-D1BA-46E3-ABF3-2113671B00AFDespite the neutral colour palette on with the interior, visual interest has been created within the interior with different shapes such as round lamps and organic forms for the sofas and textures such as straw surface panels on the walls.  The combination creates the perfect refuge to comfortably enjoy the breathtaking views.
