Inspiring Interiors

Interior design and architecture have been a life long passion of mine.  I love how some fresh paint and light can completely transform a room.  One of my favourite interior designers is Barcelona based designer Katty Schiebeck.  Katty is a design forced to be reckoned with.  Her show stopping interiors are a lesson in simplicity and minimalism, and her use of colours and contrasting materials is absolutely breathtaking.  To say that I am obsessed with her work would be an understatement, so it made sense that one of her projects would be the first in the Inspiring Interiors series here on Stylishly Zen.

This project located on the Passeig de Concepcio in Barcelona is part of a conversion project that Katty worked on.  The use of natural light and marble contrasting with dark wood and pops of colour makes this aparthotel a showstopper.  The herringbone pattern on the floor elevates the level of design in the entire space. Simple and elegant, this apartment is straight out of my dreams.

Why You May Need An Adaptogen

Adaptogens are getting a lot of attention lately and they are often recommended as a supplement, but many people are still not clear as to what adaptogens actually are.

Adaptogens are herbs and natural substances that can help you to adapt, especially to stress.  These (typically) plant based molecules work on the neuro-hormonal system to help improve it’s ability to handle and respond to mental, physical and environmental changes, by supporting balance and promoting a healthy regulation of cortisol within the body.

Life has become increasingly fast paced and hectic for most people and we are constantly faced with a barrage of stressors that cause our body to get completely out of whack. Adrenal fatigue and anxiety attacks are becoming more and more common, demonstrating just how stressed out people are. Adaptogens can help to balance out the stress that your body may be experiencing by calming and nourishing your adrenal glands, enhance your body’s ability to cope with fatigue and anxiety, promote healthy regulation of cortisol, strengthen the body’s response to stress as well as help to stabilize hormonal balance, blood sugar and blood pressure.  Please note that adaptogens are not a quick fix – they are a herbal supplemental therapy to help to support you especially during stressful periods in your life.

Some of the most popular adaptogens on the market today are:

Ashwagandha is known as a calming adaptogen which makes it ideal for people suffering from nervous tension, anxiety or insomnia.  It is commonly recommended for hypothyroidism as it stimulates the thyroid and has been shown to help relieve muscle spasms and in treating fibromyalgia

Licorice Root has historically been known to boost the immune system, increase energy and endurance and protect the thymus from cortisol damage.  As licorice root can affect blood pressure it is important to only use it while under professional supervision.

Holy Basil  is also commonly known as Tulsi.  This herb is popular throughout India as the “elixir of anti-aging”, studies on holy basil has shown that it helps to boost the immune system, regulate blood sugar, hormone levels and blood pressure along with helping the body to fight fatigue and stress.

Rhidola Rosea is popular for it’s broad range of effects which include enhancing fertility, balancing blood sugar and restoring immune function.

Asian Ginseng is a natural stimulant that helps to temper an overactive stress response and increase alertness.  It is also well known to help boost the immune system, combat free radicals within the body and lower blood sugar.

Adaptogens are a great way to help your body deal with stress but as with all supplements it is best to speak with a medical professional to ensure that they won’t negatively interact with any other medications and supplements that you may be taking.  This post is for informational purposes only and it is not intended to replace the advice of a qualified medical professional.

I hope that you have a happy and healthy day! XXS

Hello and Welcome!

My name is Soreiya and I have been obsessed with fashion and beauty my entire life.  Having achieved my dreams of graduating from fashion school and working within the industry, I found myself burnt out, overweight and completely miserable. There had to be more to life then this and I needed to find it.  So I quit my job and set out on my quest – the truth is that there were more then just a few setbacks (only in hollywood do things work out so perfectly) but I was determined.  I had been cheating myself out of a better life for far too long and I wanted to be the best version of myself that I could be.  Through this journey I realized that in this crazy, fast paced, non stop world we are frequently inundated with the newest superfood, the latest diet trend and the newest and greatest social media platform to help us to stay connected yet, the majority of people were feeling like myself – frequently overwhelmed, frustrated, sluggish and not our best. I decided to go back to school for interior design to feed my passion for beautiful spaces, and for holistic nutrition in order to learn what really works when it comes to nutrition, well being and holistic living.  My goal is to help people make positive changes to better their lives and their spaces.  During this time of renewal, I also discovered a passion for travel and for exploring this beautiful world on my own terms.  Through this blog I offer interior inspiration, nutritional insight, solo travel guides, fashion favourites and lifestyle loves along with quick, easy and delicious recipes, interviews with people who’s work I admire, and personal anecdotes about my own quest to living a happy, healthy, positive and more balanced life.

As a certified interior designer, health and nutrition coach, holistic practitioner, holistic nutritionist and bonafide solo traveller, my goal is to help you sift thru all of the information that we are constantly bombarded with, in order to help you to find your balance, to motivate you to explore this beautiful planet that we call home and to create  beautiful spaces to help you to thrive within.  You deserve to live your best life, so what are you waiting for?
